History

History of Clear Lake Islamic Center
  • All praise is due to Allah. Clear Lake Masjid started in 1996 as a small “Musalla” in a strip mall across the road from NASA.
  • Sh. Waleed Basyouni joined the Masjid as its Imam. and since then the Masjid has embarked on many dawa and educational programs that transcended the larger Muslim community in the Houston area; under its 1st name Ta’leemul Islam.
  • Clear Lake Islamic Center (CLIC) was incorporated in 2000 and registered under 501 (c) (3) as a tax exempt non-profit organization. With the expansion of its mission, the need to expand in size has become an urgent necessity.
  • Alhamdulillah the community was able to purchase a building on a 2.5 acres to transform into their own new Masjid.
  • Construction started in June 2008. Three phases of construction have been planned:
    1. Phase I: Completion of the women’s prayer area and auxiliary women’s area, hallway, multipurpose room, offices and wudo areas. Upon completion of this phase the community can start using the finished areas as their new Masjid (Using the women’s area as its temporary main musallah)
    2. Phase II: Completing the Men’s prayer area and the façade’ of the Masjid including the two minarets.
    3. Phase III: Completing the western part of the building into a large community hall that can accommodate any Islamic and social activities (e.g.: conferences, weddings, aqiqahs etc).
  • InshaAllah with Allah’s blessings and then the community’s support we can move to our new masjid before Ramadan so as to help the brothers and sisters enjoy their worship and fasting in the new Masjid with all of its facilities that makes Ramadan all the more blissful.
